When I Hit Caregiver Burnout Rock Bottom (And How I Pulled Myself Out)

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

There was a point in my caregiving journey where I hit rock bottom.

Not the kind where you’re just tired.

Not the kind where a nap fixes it.

I mean the kind of burnout where you feel completely empty.

What Caregiver Burnout Really Felt Like for Me

I was exhausted in a way that sleep couldn’t fix.

I was doing everything alone.

Physically, I hurt all the time—my back, my arms, my shoulders.

Mentally, I felt foggy and overwhelmed.

Emotionally, I felt isolated… like no one really understood what my days looked like.

And the hardest part?

I didn’t think I had a choice but to keep going.

Because when you’re a caregiver—especially a solo caregiver—stopping isn’t an option.

The Truth About When I Hit Burnout

I don’t think I fully understood what burnout was… until it happened to me.

It wasn’t just exhaustion.

It was the point where I felt like I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

My mind couldn’t keep up anymore.

My body couldn’t keep up anymore.

Everything just… stopped working the way it used to.

When My Body and Mind Started to Fail Me

There came a point where I could no longer physically or mentally perform the way caregiving required me to.

And that’s a terrifying place to be when someone depends on you.

I was:

  • Forgetting things I normally wouldn’t forget
  • Struggling to focus on basic tasks
  • Physically drained no matter how much I rested
  • Emotionally overwhelmed over the smallest things

Even simple caregiving tasks started to feel impossible.

Not because I didn’t care.

But because I had nothing left to give.

The Scariest Part No One Talks About

The scariest part wasn’t just being exhausted.

It was realizing:

👉 I don’t know how much longer I can keep doing this.

And at the same time…

👉 I don’t have a choice.

That feeling—being completely depleted but still responsible for someone else’s care—is something only caregivers truly understand.

It Took Me 9 Months to Claw My Way Out

This wasn’t a quick recovery.

It took me 9 months to slowly, painfully pull myself out of that burnout hole.

And the hardest part?

I was still caregiving 24/7 during all of it.

There was no break.

No reset.

No time off.

Just me… trying to survive each day while still showing up for my grandmother.

What “Clawing My Way Out” Actually Looked Like

It didn’t look like some big breakthrough moment.

It looked like small, barely noticeable changes:

  • Finding tiny ways to conserve my energy
  • Making tasks a little easier wherever I could
  • Reducing physical strain even slightly
  • Giving myself permission to not do everything perfectly

Some days, just getting through the day was the win.

This was the turning point for me…

What I Wish I Had Sooner

Looking back now, hindsight is 20/20.

There are so many things I struggled through that I didn’t have to.

Not because I wasn’t strong enough…

But because I didn’t know there were tools designed to help caregivers.

Simple things.

Practical things.

Things that:

  • Protect your back
  • Make hygiene easier
  • Reduce lifting strain
  • Help with nighttime care
  • Save time and energy

And honestly?

Some of these would have prevented a lot of my burnout.

Why I Share These Products Now

This is the part I want to be completely transparent about.

When I share products, I may earn a small commission if you choose to buy through my links.

But here’s what matters most:

👉 I only share things I truly believe would have helped me when I was struggling.

I’m not recommending random products.

I’m sharing what I wish someone had told me about when I was deep in it.

Because caregiving is already hard enough.

You shouldn’t have to figure everything out the hard way like I did.

This Isn’t About Selling — It’s About Preventing Burnout

If you’re here, chances are you’re already feeling the weight of caregiving.

And if I can help you:

  • Avoid injuries
  • Reduce exhaustion
  • Make daily care easier
  • Or just feel a little less overwhelmed

Then sharing these tools is worth it.

Because burnout doesn’t happen all at once.

It builds slowly.

And the right support—even small things—can make a bigger difference than people realize.

If You’re Feeling Burned Out Right Now

I want you to hear this:

You’re not weak.

You’re not failing.

You’re doing something incredibly hard—often without enough support.

I’ve been there.

And I know what it feels like to think you just have to push through.

But you don’t have to do everything the hardest way.

Where to Start

If you’re overwhelmed, don’t try to fix everything at once.

Start with one thing that makes your day easier.

One small change.

That’s how I climbed out of burnout—step by step.

Final Thoughts

I didn’t share this story for sympathy.

I shared it because I know there are caregivers out there right now who feel exactly how I did.

Burned out. Exhausted. Alone.

And if that’s you…

I hope this helps you feel seen.

And I hope it helps you find a way to make this just a little bit easier.
